Electives
Traditionally
the territory of medical students, the elective is now a
tremendous opportunity for
UK students of all disciplines -
medicine, nursing and therapy - to experience healthcare provision
in the developing world.
An elective in a mission setting gives you the chance to see what
is happening outside the UK, to use your skills in new ways, to
develop new skills and, above all, to see God at work in new ways
in your life and in the lives of those with whom you work and for
whom you care.
Use the links from this page to find out more about taking your
elective in a medical or healthcare mission setting in Asia, Africa,
Eastern Europe, Oceania or Latin America. These pages contain pretty
much all the information you need to plan and organise your elective,
but please feel free to contact us if you need further help or
advice.
Please Note: CMF cannot organise your elective
for you, nor do we help with elective placements in the UK
Planning and Preparations
CMF produces a range publications which are of use to all UK based
healthcare students planning electives. They contain information
for preparing for your medical, nursing/midwifery, therapy and
dental electives overseas and appendices with information on organisations
offering elective programmes, plus other useful information:
For a list of current elective placements and the organisations
offering them, see our 'Elective Opportunities For UK Medical & Healthcare
Students' database:
