Reading No. 17 - Reliant on God: Purpose
Therefore my brothers stand firm, let nothing move you. Always give yourself fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.
(I Corinthians 15: 58)

So many frustrations, everything so short-term, inappropriate drugs, unjust systems, appalling conditions - so many things counting against being able to make a tangible difference. Yet, a smile, a handshake, a friendly word, a reassuring gesture - and the enormous privilege of sharing the gospel and God’s compassion with so many people.

Know what I mean?! It’s so easy even in short-term mission work to get bogged down with the difficulties and problems with trying to help people. And so easy to lose perspective on the more important things. It’s easy to get frustrated because you move on so quickly that you don’t get to see anything completed, or see whether God has worked in the lives of people with whom you’ve been in contact, or whether prayers you have prayed for specific people have been answered.

Action
Read the verse above again and take heart. Refocus, readjust, be rejuvenated ... and go get ‘em!

Claire Hollingsworth
