Elective Opportunities For UK Medical & Healthcare Students
This is a catalogue of those Christian Organisations, working all
over the world, who are willing to take healthcare & medical
students for electives. It has been produced by
HealthServe
in conjunction with the
Christian Medical Fellowship (CMF).

While we aim for 100% accurate and up-to-date information, you
should be aware that details may change and mistakes may occur.
So you need to check and research the facts for yourself before
you make a decision. Please let us know if you find any error
or omission.
UK-based mission societies should be able to give you further
guidance about how and where to apply for an elective. A few of
the organisations/individuals have no UK base. CMF may be able to give you more information, or put you
in touch with someone who has been to the facility/area you are
interested in. There may be an article by a previous student -
published by CMF - that we could copy to you.
However, when you've got all the advice you can get then, as you
would expect, the final decision has to be your own. Do check
details on requirements for entry to the country concerned, transport,
and health and safety with your local host. (But be aware that
they are probably busy, and hosting elective students is an extra
job for them.)
The sheer range of options may seem bewildering. If you already
have a firm idea where you want to go, or whom you would like
to work with, then the choice will be easy. If not, and you would
like to discuss alternatives,
Dr Peter Armon (
peter.armon@cmf.org.uk),
CMF's Overseas Support Secretary, would be very happy to help.
We recommend that initially you contact 2 or at most 3 organisations,
starting your enquiries 12-18 months before your elective.
For more information and help in organising your healthcare or medical elective see:
Planning Your Medical Elective Overseas - packed
with information about everything to do with your elective from
vaccines to visas, and mission societies to malaria.
CMF Electives Days are held in
London and Leeds each year, in February/March. Their
goal is to help you prepare for your elective - medically, mentally,
and spiritually.
