Integrated community health and development project with 150 bed hospital in rural north west Bangladesh. The community programme works with about 350,000 of the poorest people in the area. The hospital provides services in comprehensive obstetric care (about 3500 deliveries per year), gynaecology, paediatrics, medicine and general surgery. We have a community based rehabilitation programme for children with disabilities. There is also a very active training centre, training health and development workers for our own and other agencies including the Governement of Bangladesh. The Nepal Leprosy Trust is a UK-based Christian agency that provides services to people affected by leprosy in the Kingdom of Nepal.

Mukinge Hospital was founded by Dr. Bob Foster in the early 1950's in the Kasempa area of Zambia. It has 200 beds divided between 7 separate inpatient wards for general medical/surgical, maternity (1,300 - 1400 deliveries a year), acute paediatrics, malnutrition, isolation, and TB. In addition, it includes an active out-patient department and numerous support services. The hospital cares for an average of 150-160 inpatients per day, and 160-180 outpatients per day. ‘Local patients’ travel as far as 5 days on foot / bike to reach the hospital, with a growing number of other patients coming to Mukinge's rural / remote setting when they are unable to obtain adequate care in the cities.

Situated in a remote area of northern KwaZulu Natal, this 184 bedded hospital has a strong Christian ethos. Situated 60 Km from the border with Mozambique, it provides primary healthcare for a rural community of some 75,000 people

located in a village setting in the foothills of the Himalayas, 160 miles north of Delhi and 25 miles west of the Uttaranchal Sate capital, Dehradun. The hospital was founded in 1936 by the late Dr Geoffrey Lehmann.

The hospital provides a range of services including a 100 bed in patient unit, General Surgery, Paediatrics & Paediatric Surgery, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Community Health, Ophthalmology, General medicine, Dental services, Clinical psychology, Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy.

Started in May 1931, LCH is located in the township of Mussoorie, at 7,000 feet above sea level in the Himalayan foothills. It serves the people of the township as well as the nearby villages. The hill people in the villages are very poor, living at a subsistence level, with high infant and maternal mortality rates, compounded by malnutrition. Many are refugees from Tibet and Nepal.

LCH offers General Surgery, Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Paediatrics, Anesthesia, Dental services, Ophthalmology and Community Health services. It has a bed capcity of 35, and an outpatient capcity of around 100 paitents per day.

There is an associated leprosy control programme and rehabilitation centre.  A mobile community health team operates in the surrounding districts.  There are five associated rural health centres. An AIDS care, prevention and control programme has developed since 1987. A four phase nutrition programme is conducted.

A Salvation Army 100-bed general hospital with nursing and midwifery training schools. A student centre of the Community Health Department of the University of Zimbabwe is affiliated with the hospitalwith whom it cooperates in community health in the surrounding districts.

A Salvation Army 25-bed hospital, focussing on maternal child health and paediatrics. It serves a widespread catchment area in which a mobile unit operates and a community health programme has developed. HIV/AIDS is becoming a significant issue.

A 120 bed Christian Mission Hospital located in a semi-rural area of southwestern Nigeria, with a Family Residency as well as a Housemanship programme. They have 4 full time  consultants (two in family Medicine and two in Obstretrics/Gynecology). They regularly have medical students from Nigeria and other  parts of West Africa as well as the US do international/mission medicine rotations with us. We see a variety of medical cases including malaria, tuberculosis, meningitis, tetanus, peptic ulcer disease, hypertension, diabetes, renal disease, and AIDS. Surgical cases such as typhoid perfprations, hernias, complicated deliveries, prostatectomies, cancers, road traffic accidents, and other types of trauma are common.

Mulanje Mission Hospital is in Malawi. The hospital has developed into a 192 bed general hospital in Mulanje district with over 475,000 inhabitants. The immediate catchment area for the hospital and its Primary Health Care program is 71 villages with around 66,000 people.

Ekwendeni Mission Hospital has existed since the 1889, after being established by Scottish missionaries as a dispensary. It is a 230-bed capacity hospital owned by CCAP Synod of Livingstonia since 1962 and registered under Christian Health Association of Malawi. It is located in north east part Mzimba (largest district in Malawi), about 25 km from Mzuzu city along the M1 road to Karonga.

It has a catchment of 600 sq km, serving a population of over 74,000 people and also a referral population of over 200,000 people from neighboring areas, district in northern region and Tanzania and Zambia. It has 297 staff members working in clinical, nursing, Primary Health Care, administration, maintenance and Chaplaincy departments. These provide preventive, curative and rehabilitative health services to patients and the community.

Act4Africa is a health education charity which delivers HIV and AIDs Education and Behavioural Change Programmes in an effort to arrest the AIDS pandemic which is threatening a whole continent.
