LAUNCH OF MICAH CHALLENGE UK CAMPAIGN
Make your voice heard on behalf of those who can't.

Leading Christian organisations and aid/development agencies in Britain are calling on the UK government to keep its promises to halve world poverty by 2015.

At the start of Micah Challenge UK they urge Christians to get behind the campaign by signing an on-line petition holding politicians to account.

In September 2000 the Government agreed to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which came out of a United Nations's commitment and duty 'to all the world's people, especially the most vulnearable and in particular the children of the world to whom the future belongs.' The task now is to ensure they do that.

Julia Wensley from Micah Challenge UK says,
'Like many governments ours has agreed the Millennium Development Goals which seek to improve the quality of life for some of the world's poorest people. Signing the petition makes a real difference. For the Jubilee campaign it was estimated that £4,000 of debt was cancelled for every signature collected. We must do all we can in the knowledge that it will make a difference.'

Worldwide the campaign hopes to collect signatures representing more than 25 million individuals and more than a million churches. In the UK it also seeks to deepen the existing Christian commitment to the poor by involving churches, Christian organisations and projects and individual Christians. Over the next 12 months events, resources and a dedicated website http://www.micahchallenge.org/uk will highlight the issues and engender support for the campaign.

Micah Challenge UK is part of the international Micah Challenge campaign launched on 15th October in New York which is spearheaded by The World Evangelical Alliance representing more than 3 million local churches, and the Micah Network of more than 260 aid and development organisations.
