HealthServe Day 2005
Call to Overseas Healthcare
A Day Conference looking at the practical issues of getting involved in modern healthcare and medical mission for Christian health professionals and students based in the United Kingdom.
We stand at a unique point in history. In the West, healthcare resources are increasing life expectancy and quality of life for millions, yet every day in Africa 3,000 children die from malaria. Adults in children in the UK can all have access to HIV antiretroviral therapy that has drastically reduced illness and death from AIDS, but 5.1 million people in Asia and Africa are too poor to have access to this treatment.
A disabled adult in the UK still faces many challenges, but new codes in building public spaces, employment law and a change social attitudes mean that even those with severe disabilities have opportunities open to them that were not there even a decade ago. But in most of the world the disabled are hidden away, forgotten and feared.
Jesus tells us that to those whom much is given, much is expected. As Christian health professionals in the 21st Century, we who have been given so much have a unique opportunity and responsibility to challenge and change these inequalities – to use our skills and knowledge to be of benefit to those in need all around the world, and to bring with us the fragrance of Jesus – the gospel of salvation and eternal hope.
This one-day conference is for you if you are interested in using your skills to serve overseas, long-term or short-term.
