Exploring Medical & Enterprise Opportunities in Plateau State, Nigeria
Medic Assis International, in association with the Transformational Business Network and the Christian Medical Fellowship, invites you to join them in a visit to Vom Hospital, Plateau State, Nigeria from 15th to 25th November, 2005.
The trip will provide exposure to an area of conflict and tension between predominantly Christian and Muslim peoples. 53,787 were killed & 280,000 were displaced in this area, according to offical Government estimates, between September 2001 and May 2004.
The Church owned hospital has an excellent reputation but is struggling with a history of under-investment and the poverty of the local population, who struggle to afford the realistic costs of treatment.
MAI has been helping the hospital over the last two years by sending short term medical team, supplying necessary equipment and resourcing a network of local clinics. Recently, MAI has funded the employment of a Nigerian to head up income generation projects for the subsidy of patient treatment and renewal of infrastructure at the hospital.
The goals of this Exposure Trip are to:
- assess the future healthcare needs of Plateau State
- provide training to medical staff, with opportunities in anaesthetics, orthopaedics and plastic surgery
- evaluate & advise on options for income generation
MAI, TBN and CMF invite enthusiastic medical and business professionals to join this team. While the opportunity of this trip will give you a unique exposure to a post-crisis situation, we believe you will learn and receive as much, if not more, as you teach and give.
