5.4 Other personal health and safety matters
The FCO website of the UK government contains a wealth of travel advice.
www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1007029390572
The WHO site also provides a useful list of contents for a basic medical kit and advice on other health matters - whqlibdoc.who.int/publications/2005/9241580364_chap1.pdf
Take a plentiful supply of personal medications. If you wear glasses or contact lens, remember to take spares and your prescription with you.

Be aware that:
  • The commonest cause of morbidity and mortality among ex-patriates overseas is an RTA.
  • Avoid travelling after dusk, if you can, and wear a seat belt if at all possible.
  • Never resist violent theft.
  • Remember that if a child needs to return to the UK for treatment, you need cover that allows a parent to accompany the child.
  • BUPA has excellent insurance schemes but they are not cheap www.bupa-intl.com/
