Home What
is Healthcare Mission
|
|
 When Jesus sent out
the twelve He gave them authority to preach the gospel and to heal
in His name (Matthew 10 v1). The ministry of healing and care for
the sick and the poor has been a central part of Christian mission
ever since.
For many years the term 'medical mission' was used reflecting the
emphasis on medically led initiatives such as mission hospitals
in the last two centuries. Today, the term 'healthcare' is used
to embrace the other ways in which Christians with training in the
caring and healing professions serve Christ amongst the poor. This
embraces doctors working in hospitals and primary care clinics,
nurses and midwives in community and hospital, physiotherapists
and occupational therapists setting up community based rehabilitation
programmes, clinical psychologists and mental health nurses helping
those entrapped by drug abuse. The list goes on.
This site carries information on many ways in which Christians in
the healing and caring professions can still service God amongst
the poor and marginalised. Click
